How to Play Talent Cards
Talent cards are the most powerful cards in the game. When played, they can add a bonus to any of your dice rolls, and when played during a check, they can add a bonus to any roll of that type. They can also be played during the turn phase, and they can be played at any time during your turn, but the effects of a card are determined by the time at which it is played. For example, if you play a talent card during your turn phase, you can use the bonus that it adds to your dice rolls, but you can’t use the bonus it adds to your checks.
When you play a talent card, you must choose a Talent Type and a Talent to use. The Talent Type indicates which bonus you get from the card. You can use a Talent card only if you have the Talent of that type. For example, you can play a Mind Talent card if you have the Mind Talent.
The numbers in the box at the top of each card represent the bonus you get from the card. The top number in the box represents the bonus you get for any roll of that type.
Previously, you might have heard that you could get two bonuses from a card, but this is not true. You get only one bonus, and the bonus you get depends on the type of roll you are making. The bottom number in the box represents the bonus you get from a check of that type. For example, a card with a 3 in the box would give you a +3 bonus on any roll of the type specified by the top number. A card with a 2 in the box would give you a +2 bonus on any roll of the type specified by the top number.
The player who plays the card has the option of replacing the bonus he or she gets from the card with a different bonus, or not replacing the bonus at all. If the player doesn’t want to replace the bonus, the card is discarded. If the player wants to replace the bonus, the card is discarded and the player chooses a Talent card to replace the one he or she just played. The player then places the Talent card on the table face up, and he or she chooses another Talent card to play.
To use a Talent card, you must announce what type of roll you are making and which Talent you are using.
